Carcinold tumors of the rectum continue !to interest clinicians because of their rarity and their uncertain malignant potential.
We have experienced 2 cases of carcinoid tumors of the rectum treated surgically.
The first and second case in a 28 year old female and 30 year old female were treated by Miles´ operation and Pull-through operation at Dept. of Surgery, Yonsei University, College of Medicine from 1968 to 1973, inclusive.
The first case received Miles´ operation and revealed metastasis to regional lymphnodes at the time of operation, died one year after surgery because of metastasis to brain, heart, overy and periaortic lymphnodes and was confirmed by autopsy.
The second case, received Pull-through operation in 1968 has carried on normal life upto date without evidence of tumor recurrence.
